Periodontics Residency Program

Program Overview

  • Projected state date: July 2027
  • Length of program: three years (full-time specialty training program)
  • Two positions available (PGY1)

    Graduate Medical Education (GME) trainees receive annual stipends. Stipend levels are reviewed and adjusted each year. The FY26 Stipend Letter indicates the stipend levels for the upcoming academic year for PGY1 is $72,841

    Applicants must have a professional dental degree from an ADA accredited dental college or school with a degree designation of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

    Applicants must have a valid license to practice within the United States of America or be licensed as such by the time they are to begin their postgraduate program.

    Once accepted, a Utah dental license is required to participate in the program. 

    At the present time, foreign trained dentist (non-U.S. or non-Canadian dental degrees) are not being accepted for the postgraduate training programs due to licensing restrictions. 

    A complete application for postgraduate training includes the following components:

    • Application through the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS)
    • National Matching Services (NMS) aka “The Match”: After applying through ADEA PASS; applicants must also register for the NMS match, which uses an algorithm to match applicants to programs
    • Notification: The results of the match are released on a specific date, and matched applicants are notified of their program assignments
