Digital Dentistry Certificate Program

Graduate Certificate in Foundational Digital Dentistry

 

The Graduate Certificate in Foundational Digital Dentistry is designed to provide dental professionals with the opportunity to explore digital dentistry equipment and software and plan how they will utilize these tools in their practice.

Upon completion of the Certificate in Foundational Digital Dentistry, students will be able to: 

  1. Utilize current digital dentistry technology for manufacturing, radiology, prosthodontics, prosthetics, and implants in practice.
  2. Produce various physical and digital models and materials, including images, prosthetics, and implants.
  3. Identify the uses of digital dentistry equipment and software.
  4. Explain the applications and best practices for implementing digital dentistry tools and technology into a dental practice.
  5. Analyze the implementation of digital tools in health-related practices within a dental office. 

    The Digital Dentistry program is designed to provide dental professionals the opportunity to explore digital dentistry equipment and software. The program utilizes a sequencing and stackable model where student's complete coursework for a Certificate in Foundational Digital Dentistry with an option to transitioning to a full Masters of Digital Dentistry. Completion of the Certificate counts toward the Master of Digital Dentistry. The Certificate in Foundational Digital Dentistry offered by the University of Utah provides students higher education credibility and exposure to new technologies in digital dentistry.

    Technologies Students will be exposed to:

    • Intraoral Scanners
      • CBCT/Facial Scanners
      • 3D Printers
      • Chairside and Lab Milling
      • Chairside and Lab Software
      • Implant Planning Software
    • Opportunity to learn in a non-commercial environment.
      • Learn about various digital dentistry equipment and the software needed to utilize them.
      • Learn the applications and best practices for implementing digital dentistry tools and technology into a dental practice.

    The Foundational Digital Dentistry Graduate Certificate consists of five 8-week courses that are 3-credits each. Courses will run consecutively: 2 courses in Fall, 2 courses in Spring, and 1 course in Summer.

    Continuing Education: The UUSOD is a CODA accredited institution and therefore the certificate can be used for 15 Continuing Education hours.

    Tuition is $2,000 per credit, $6,000 per course, $30,000 total.

    Fall Semester

    1. DENT 7710 Intro to Digital Dentistry: Digital Modalities, Digital in Radiology, and Design & Manufacturing
    2. DENT 7711 Design/Manufacturing II, Digital in Radiology II, & Digital Fixed Prosthodontics

    Spring Semester: 

    1. DENT 7712 Digital Fixed Prosthodontics II, Operative, and Implant Surgery
    2. DENT 7713 Removeable Prosthetic, Implant Prosthetics, and Operative II

    + In-Person hands-on week at the UUSOD – Exact dates TBD. 

    Each student will have a $1,500 stipend for travel costs (lodging, airfare, mileage). All meals will be provided.

    Summer: 

    1. DENT 7714 Implant Surgery II, Orthodontics, and Business in Digital (May-July)

    This application cycle (for the cohort starting August 2026) will be open February 16, 2026 and close on June 30, 2026.

    • Admissions Requirements:
      1. A DDS or DMD degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA or higher is required.

        1. All applicants will be asked to upload an unofficial copy of their academic transcripts when completing the application online.
          • Current students or graduates of the University of Utah will not be required to submit their U of U transcripts.
        2. Students will need gain access to an Intraoral scanner and 3D printer on their own. The UUSOD will provide access to any software required.

         

      2. How to Apply:
        1. Submit an application and personal statement through the University of Utah Apply Yourself (AY) online application system (please choose "Foundation").
        2. Pay the application fee is $55. You can pay your fee online through the AY system.
